选自汉·桓宽《盐铁论·申韩》。曲木，弯曲的木头。恶，厌恶、怕。绳，木匠用以裁曲取直的墨绳。奸邪，奸邪之人。正法，公正无私的法律。这句话以曲木畏直绳作类比，说明公正无私之法对奸邪之人的威慑作用。
凡是圣人制造的这些东西，无一不是有益于实用才去做的，所以使用财物不浪费，民众能够不劳苦，他兴起的利益太多了。
