战战兢兢，如临深渊，如履薄冰。
【原文】曾子有疾，召门弟子曰：“启予足！启予手!《诗》曰：‘战战兢兢，如临深渊，如履薄冰。’而今而后，吾知免夫！小子。”【译文】曾子得了重病，召集他的弟子们说：“(掀开被子)看看我的脚!看看我的手(有没有毁伤之处)！《诗经》中说：‘小心翼翼，就像站在深渊之旁，就像踩在薄冰之上。’从今以后，我知道(我的身体)再也不会受伤了。弟子们!”
小人也有坦荡之处，因为无所忌讳；君子亦有忧戚之处，因终生都忧国忧民。
