I have often been asked how my plays come about. I cannot say. Nor can I ever explain to myself what they mean.

The whole conviction of my life now rests upon the belief that loneliness, far from being a rare and curious phenomenon, peculiar to myself and to a few other solitary men, is the central and inevitable fact of human existence.

You can't just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You've got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.

Life is not worth living if it is not subject to reexamination.
