故天将降大任于斯人也，必先苦其心志，劳其筋骨，饿其体肤，空乏其身，行拂乱其所为，所以动心忍性，曾益其所不能。
所以天将要把重大任务落到这个人身上，一定先要使他的心志痛苦，使他的筋骨劳累，使他的身体饥饿，使他的身子穷困，并且使他的每一行为总是不能如意，借此来使他的内心震动，坚韧他的性情，增加他的才干。
