君子慎重地对待取决于自己、自己能主宰的事，而不去羡慕由天来决定的事，所以他们每天豆浆进步；小人不去做取决于自己、自己能主宰的事，却对由天决定的事由浓厚兴趣，所以他们每天都退步。正所谓“尽人事，知天命”，很多事是人力不可为的，就是所谓“天决定的事”，偶然性很大，不能强求。但很多人就是对这些事心心念念、抓着不放，守株待兔，幻想着天上掉馅饼，寄希望于福利彩票中大奖、发横财。不如踏踏实实地做好自己的日常工作，在这些能掌握在自己手中的事上下功夫，每天才能有进步，积少成多，更有可能取得成就。
